Broadband Access Technologies

iPass delivers Managed Network Services over a network of 160 pre-certified broadband providers across the U.S. and Canada. To ensure the broadest possible coverage, flexible access and optimal redundancy, we support a comprehensive range of broadband access technologies, including:

  • Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) technology uses copper telephone lines to deliver broadband Internet connectivity, providing an ideal solution for the home office, small office or mid-sized business location. Two types of ADSL installations are available:

    • Shared Line ADSL uses an existing telephone line, taking advantage of unused frequencies to deliver data communications without disturbing normal voice service, which continues to operate concurrently. Filters are typically installed on voice connections to eliminate interference.
    • Dedicated Loop ADSL utilizes a new, single-purpose telephone line installed exclusively for data service. While no conventional telephone service is included, dedicated loop ADSL readily accommodates VoIP telephony along with Internet access services.
  • Cable access uses existing cable television network infrastructure to deliver broadband Internet services similar to ADSL, but often with higher available bandwidth and transfer speeds.

  • T1, or Trunk Level 1, is the base tier in the North American standard for digital transmission pipes. Delivered over copper wire or fiber optic cable, T1 is available as a channelized service of 24 individual 56 kbps channels, or as a raw 1.54 Mbps pipe. It is a standard access technology for any business location with multiple users and applications.

  • Wireless. iPass supports a broad range of wireless access technologies to connect both mobile workers and remote facilities. 3G broadband services are available for primary and backup office connectivity, as well as for fast deployment or temporary service delivery where cable or DSL connections are not immediately available.
